Staff Engineer - Pressure Safe

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory (SLAC) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced pressure system safety engineer with substantial experience in the development and implementation of a pressure safety program. This position will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the design, purchase, construction, installation, operation, inspection, maintenance, repair, and decommissioning of pressure systems. The successful candidate will provide support throughout various scientific and operational organizations within the laboratory. Specific responsibilities include (but not limited to): Stewardship of the SLAC pressure systems safety program. Update and maintain SLAC Pressure Systems Program including procedures, requirements, forms, and tools. Develop training and qualifying standards for pressure system operators, mechanics, inspectors, and design engineers. Coordinate with scientific users. Understand challenges of experimental programs and assist in developing controls, especially where experimental systems fall outside the scope or intended application of the consensus codes. This includes vacuum systems and cryogenic systems. Review and approve use of systems developed under non-US pressure code environments. Establish and support alternate qualification reviews and programs. Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on conventional and experimental pressure systems and pressure vessels safety and code compliance. Review and evaluate DOE Directives and industry codes and standards for potential inclusion into program requirements and guidance. Evaluate work being planned on pressure vessels and pressure systems. Provide guidance to system and equipment owners to identify and mitigate hazards and to facilitate safe operation and maintenance of pressure systems equipment. Perform technical review of pressure system designs and design changes. Participate in design reviews and technical meetings. Provide technical guidance and assist in the performance of safety and code compliance assessments. Review, conduct, and evaluate pressure system safety analyses and risk assessments Review submittals, drawings, procedures, and related documentation
