As the Serials Cataloging Librarian, you will concentrate on cataloging serials and continuations for the University at Buffalo Libraries as part of the Discovery Services team dedicated to providing library users with the resources they need for research, learning and teaching. Your key responsibilities will include: Performing cataloging and check-in of serials, standing orders, and continuations for Law, Arts and Sciences, Health Sciences, Architecture and Planning and Music. Maintaining serial holdings in the library services platform (Alma/Primo VE) and in OCLC. Receiving print serials/periodicals/newspapers in Alma and maintaining summary holdings in the catalog. Completing original or copy cataloging and bibliographic maintenance work for both periodical and monographic material. Overseeing the serials/periodical binding process including gathering them for commercial binding or in-house bundling, physical end processing and inventory management. Receiving and processing annuals and/or items that are superseded (reference material). Minimum Qualifications: A master's degree in library and information science ( MLS / MLIS ) from an ALA -accredited institution, or equivalent. A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the education requirement. Familiarity with MARC 21 Format for Holdings Data ( MFHD ) for serials. Proficiency in creating original bibliographic records and editing existing bibliographic records using the MARC format standard; familiarity with serial bibliographic record format and serial title change variations
