Director of Housing Operations

The University at Buffalo (UB) invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of Housing Operations. Reporting to the Senior Associate Vice President, Student Life, Christina Hernandez, the Director will be a highly visible, student-centered leader who is innovative, decisive, proactive and solution oriented. As Director, they will lead a diverse group of housing operations and residential facilities staff who support UB's nearly 8,000 on-campus student population. The Position The Director provides vision, leadership, and supervision to the critical departments of Housing Services, inclusive of assignment and occupancy strategy and residential facility operations, maintenance, custodial and capital projects. In addition to being a strong, strategic, and transparent leader, the new Director will build on the strengths of the department and work effectively in a collaborative/team environment with an array of stakeholders including executive leadership and governance boards, direct reports, faculty, staff, students and alumnae. The Director will exercise discretion in judgment and advises supervisor regarding policy changes, divisional procedural changes with division-wide impact, and matters concerning employee relations issues. The Director deals with all levels of positions in the Division of Student Life and campus community, serving as the lead on housing operations initiatives. They make referrals to other university offices as appropriate. Among the most important administrative interactions are those between the incumbent, NYS Dormitory Authority, UB Foundation and selected offices within the Office of the Vice President for Finance and Administration. The Director regularly deals with confidential information and makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, employee position and roles, salary proposals, and succession planning. They will also have access to FERPA protected student data as relevant for the role.
